The Family Activities coordinator for ATWW 2026 is requesting help!

Do you have an idea for a family activity that you would like to run this year? Are you willing to help someone else run an activity? Arts & crafts, classes, games, stories; anything that children would enjoy.

Please contact our family activities coordinator, Lady Leticia, at leticia.m.ward@gmail.com if you would like to help. Background checks are desired but not required, as you can be partnered with others who do have them. Even if you’re not sure of how you could help, Leticia can find a way to let you be a part of making sure our youth have an incredible event! The wild child running through town hall with a boffer may be a future royal peer; volunteer today to help them grow and thrive in the SCA!

Youth Armored Combat

We’ll have melees and a tournament, just for youth! Baron Brynjarr Olfúss and THL Gaius Aurelianus Felix (Fel) are coordinating some excellent combat opportunities for youth at An Tir West War 2026. More details coming soon.

Combatants should bring their own equipment and have attended at least one official practice prior to An Tir West War. A legally responsible adult must accompany minors to youth combat activities. Do you want to become a Junior Marshal in An Tir, for Youth Armored Combat? You can do this DURING the YAC activities at this war! Our coordinators know there is a shortage of Marshals in some areas of the Kingdom, and they are providing an opportunity to help change that.

Practice: Wednesday, July 1, 3:30–4:30PM in the Town Square

A Youth Armored Combat practice, but also so much more! Parents or legal guardians must bring their fighters along with all requisite paperwork and equipment for inspection. Lists will be open for the Rose Tournament and the Melees in order to reduce the administrative burden on successive days. Marshals will conduct armor inspections and authorize fighters who cannot do so before war. Limited loaner gear will be available.

There will be a class at the practice for adults from An Tir seeking to become YAC marshals. West Kingdom and marshal authorizations will not be available without a senior marshal from the West present, but West populace may still attend. Aspiring marshals will have opportunities during the week to demonstrate their ability to safely run YAC activities, resulting in authorization as a youth marshal by the end of the event. If you’re interested in the class and becoming a YAC marshal, please study the An Tir Book of Youth Armored Combat available in the An Tir Library ( link to handbook https://antirsca.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/library/EW7fcVi5bdBPpoGARnCC3iUBtxe3QE38yplpYBrTw_hjcQ?e=YVQKXl ).

Fight like a Knight:  Wednesday, July 1, 4:30PM–5:30 or 6PM in the Town Square

Following the YAC practice, a series of classes will be given in conjunction with the Youth and Family Activities Area by adult experts in particular weapon styles. This activity is open to any youths aged 6-17 seeking to improve their technique, those that want to do better on the boffer field, and those who are just curious about swordplay in general, not just YAC fighters! Duke Kenric will teach Florentine/two-sword, Sir Brandubh will teach glaive/polearm, and [pending] will teach greatsword. All three classes will occur simultaneously and rotate every 20 minutes. Bring your own boffers, as the loaner supply is limited and will probably run out! Since these classes will be demonstrational and not involve unscripted combat, most sufficiently padded weapon analogues will work for the classes, to include non-YAC-legal boffers.
