An Tir West War hosts several tournaments, for all types of fighters. These are still in the planning stage. We will add more information as it becomes available.
Welcome to the War Bear Pit Tournament (rapier and C&T)
Time: Wednesday, July 1, 3PM
Location: Town Square
War is upon us, and it is glorious. Once you have arrived and set up camp it is time to start
fighting your friends. Join us in the town square Wednesday afternoon for a nice warm up tournament. We will be hosting a bear pit tournament for rapier and C&T. The more fighters show up, the more pits we will run at once.
Rose Tournament and Royal Consorts’ Happy Hour
Time: Thursday, July 2nd. List at 2pm, happy hour at 1pm.
Location: War Field in front of the An Tir Pavilion.
ATTENTION ALL ROYAL CONSORTS!!!!!!! IF YOU HAVE EVER SAT A CROWN OR PRINCIPALITY CONSORT’S THRONE, you are cordially invited to participate in a regal tournament of skill and daring, with drinks and snacks!
Each Member of the Orders of Royal Consorts can choose up to SIX champions, a MAXIMUM of TWO Heavy combatants (one Knight and one unbelt or both unbelted), TWO rapier
and TWO C&T combatants (one MoD and one uncollared or both uncollared). You may have as few as ONE fighter and a Max of SIX fighters in the proper categories.
These teams will then face off against each other in an Atlantean Speed Style Tournament to determine who is truly the fairest in all the land. Come and fight for the honor of your kingdom and the grace of our society.
The Atlantean Speed Tournament is a tournament style that is a variation on the standard SCA double elimination. In the first “round” all fighters are given a single opponent, and the round is fought simultaneously on the one list field. All losers then move to a second list field and new opponents are selected on both fields. Any losers from the winners’ field move to the losers’ field. Any victors on the losers’ field move to the winners’ field. Any losers on the losers’ field will have been defeated twice, so they are eliminated from the tournament.
This continues until there is only one fighter left, or the number of remaining fighters is small enough to allow other tournament styles to be implemented.
Rapier / C&T will be the standard forms of combat.
Royal Consorts Happy Hour:
Please join us at 1:00 PM before the tournament for a Royal Consorts’ Happy Hour. Come connect with fellow Royal Consorts and enjoy refreshments before the festivities begin.
We look forward to an exciting afternoon of camaraderie, competition, and celebration!
In service to the Dream,
Viscountess Margaret Grym, Evren Ankaravi, and Moira or Kent
Youth Rose Tournament
Time: Thursday, July 2, at 4pm
Location: War Field in front of the An Tir Pavilion (next to the adult tournament)
Countess Astrid of the Fjordlands invites all Youth Armored Combat fighters to present themselves on the Warfield to enter the first An Tir & West War Youth Armored Combat Rose Tournament, sponsored by the Order of the Rose and the order of the Valorous Estate. Roses and Royalty from across the Knowne World may come and sponsor a youth combatant, then cheer them on as they vie against the field in their honor. Youths may be sponsored in advance or just before the tournament. No authorized fighters will be turned away, so bring your gear, your arms, and your most chivalric conduct to come fight for glory and the honor of your Rose!
Harnischfechten tournament (experiment)
Time: Friday, July 3, 2–3PM
Location: Town Square
The clash of steel on steel has never rung louder than when two knights in their full kit face off against each other on the field of honor. Come witness the spectacle of Harnesfecten, where our combatants fight in a way that acknowledges the advantages and constraints of the armor they wear. This is not C&T but a different style of steel combat which uses a rule set that encourages fighters to utilize techniques that would be effective against a fully armored opponent.
Tournament of Kingdoms (C&T)
Time: Friday, July 3, 3–5PM (armor inspection & lists will start at 2:30PM)
Location: Town Square
War is upon us and it is again time to determine who is the greatest cut and thrust fighter in all the kingdoms. This tournament will be fought using the shared rule conventions for C&T. Additionally, no single handed swords more than 40 inches will be permitted in the tournament. The tournament will be done as a pooled round robin. We will break the field into multiple round robin pits. We will take the top fighters from each of those pits and they will face off in a best 2/3 single elimination tournament. The default will be four pools pulling the top four from each, but we may need to adjust those numbers depending on participation and time constraints. Armor inspection, lists, and warm up time will start at 2:30pm. Please be on time so that we can all have fun and still make it to court.
Unbelted Tournament
Time: Friday, July 3, list opens at 1PM, tournament 2–4:30PM
Location: War Field near the Court Pavilions
Do you wish to test your prowess in single combat before Their Majesties and assembled Knights? Do you have a desire to show your Chivalry and Courtesy before your Kingdom and the populace? This year’s format will be the old mosh pit style: two 30 minute sets with a 10 minute break between the two sets. All fighters will be given a number when they sign in at lists. Use the number when reporting wins/loses to your scorer. There will be 4 score takers for reporting wins/losses.
At the end of the second set, we will hold a sweet 16 single-elimination tournament to determine the winner.
Sweet 16:
2 highest wins from each scorer = 8
TRM An Tir = 2
TRM West = 2
Knights = 2
Two “spots” left as floaters for visiting Royals as needed.
We ask as many Knights as possible to come and watch and/or be available to fight, as you prefer.
Many thanks to this year’s coordinator, Brandubh de Santini KSCA
Period Master Tourney (rapier + C&T)
Time: Saturday, July 4, 2–4PM
Location: War Field
The path of the scholar is long and arduous. It is easy to fall for the siren’s call of easy tournament victories, but this is the place where fighters are encouraged not to show off how powerful they are but rather how knowledgeable.
Each fighter will need to describe to the judges three different historical techniques they will be demonstrating. New this year, we will be awarding bonus points for presenting documentation. You can pre-register for the tournament here ( https://forms.gle/24WCbSE9pDH89u2WA ) and upload your documentation. Please keep it no more than a few pages. The goal is to help the judges understand the technique and confirm that you are using it in a way that matches the historical texts.
Cancer Sucks Fundraising Tournament (heavy):
Location: Town Square
Time: Saturday, July 4, 2–4pm
All combatants are invited to participate in the 11th annual (not counting when the world shut down) fundraising tournament at West / An Tir War, to benefit the Providence Cancer Center. Many thanks to this year’s organizer, Kuria Andromacha of Lesbos! The tournament style will depend on the number of participants. Based on prior years, this will most likely be an Atlantean speed tournament.
